She still wears a garter belt. So much better than pantyhose, so less encumbering than tights. Some things were invented for a reason, and this was one. She loved rolling up her stockings every morning and reversing the motion every night. The feel of the knit, the weave, the way she could just breathe. The new stockings were terrible, suffocating. She tried them, even wore them for years. But then, she saw the flash of the snaps as she opened a drawer one day, unaware she even still had it. In the back of the drawer was her favorite stockings, a grey taupe linen knit, smooth, familliar, comfortable.

She threw all of her nylons away the next day.
